Faridah binti Hassan

Kuching · Household Documents Stocktake

We had always meant to sort out where everything was kept but it kept being pushed aside. The two-hour appointment was manageable — Siti Lyana asked the right questions and we did not feel we had to explain our family situation at all. The index came back two days later. My husband and I both read through it and it made sense to both of us, which is exactly what we needed.

Kuching · Caring Together Workshop

My two sisters and I had been managing things for our mother without any clear structure. Whoever was nearest just handled things. The workshop gave us a way to write down who was doing what and check in each month without it turning into a long conversation. I went in sceptical that five sessions would be worth it. The third session was where things clicked for us — the task division exercise showed us a pattern we had not noticed. I would have liked one more session but that is a minor thing.

Kota Samarahan · Family Continuity Programme

We enrolled after my father passed and we realised we did not know where half the household papers were. The stocktake appointment helped us understand what we had and what we were still missing. We continued into the full programme and the quarterly reviews have been useful — Amirah is thorough and the updates to the index happen quickly when things change. The handover pack at the end of last year was something we could actually give to my brother in KL without needing to walk him through everything.

Kuching · Household Documents Stocktake

I was expecting a more complicated process but the appointment was straightforward. The coordinator worked through categories methodically and we were done in just under two hours. The written index was clear. I noticed it did not include the type of household agreements we have around our jointly owned property — when I asked, I was told those could be added in a separate session, which was fair. Would use again when things change.

Miri · Caring Together Workshop

Our family had four siblings spread across Miri, Kuching and Sibu trying to coordinate care for our mother. The workshop was run online for us given the distance. Having the templates to set up a shared calendar and a simple appointment log made a real difference to how we communicated day to day. Raymond kept the sessions focused on the practical side, which was what we needed — we had been to other things that felt more like counselling and that was not what we were looking for.

Kuching · Family Continuity Programme

We have two young children and I wanted to make sure someone other than me knew where everything important was kept. The first year has been smooth. The quarterly meetings are short — usually thirty to forty minutes — and the index gets updated when things change. The digitisation has been useful for the older documents. I mentioned one item that I thought should have been included in the first stocktake and it was added in at the next quarterly review without any fuss.

Case studies

CASE STUDY 01 — Household Documents Stocktake

A family of four who did not know where their tenancy agreement was kept

Starting point

A couple with two school-age children had no written record of where their household documents were stored. When their tenancy needed renewal, they spent several days looking for the original agreement. They came to Nurtura wanting to avoid a repeat of that situation.

What was done

The Stocktake appointment covered eighteen document categories across the household. The coordinator noted six items that the family said they intended to locate and three that would need replacement through the appropriate authority. The written index was delivered within two working days.

After the appointment

The household had a written index covering all currently located documents and a list of the six missing items with the type of office handling each. Both adults in the household confirmed they could follow the index independently without assistance.

"It is a simple thing but having a written list that my husband and I can both read is worth more than I expected." — Client, Kuching, July 2025

CASE STUDY 02 — Caring Together Workshop

Three siblings in different towns coordinating care for an ageing parent

Starting point

Three adult siblings — one in Kuching, one in Sibu, one in Bintulu — were sharing care of their mother without any written structure. Tasks were distributed by proximity and whoever responded first to a message. Repetition and gaps both occurred regularly.

What was done

All three siblings attended the five-session workshop, joining two sessions in person and three remotely. By session three, they had set up a shared calendar reflecting actual availability. By session five, they had a written task list and a monthly check-in structure they were already running themselves.

After the workshop

The siblings had a working calendar, a factual appointment log, and a task list reviewed monthly. The check-in had been running for two months at the point of follow-up and all three siblings reported fewer uncoordinated messages during the week.

"We were duplicating things and missing things at the same time. The calendar alone would have been worth attending for." — Client, Sibu, August 2025

CASE STUDY 03 — Family Continuity Programme

A household preparing for the possibility of one parent relocating for work

Starting point

A household with three children faced a possible extended work posting for one parent. The staying parent wanted a complete record of household documents, a maintained index, and a document that could be handed to another trusted adult if needed during the posting.

What was done

The programme began with the Stocktake, followed by quarterly reviews across twelve months. Three index updates were needed as the children's school records changed and household services were adjusted. Digitisation covered the paper document set. The annual handover pack was prepared in advance of the potential posting date.

After twelve months

The household had a current document index, a digital set on their own USB drive, and a handover pack that a trusted family member confirmed they could follow without a phone call. The posting did not proceed but the family continued with a second year of the programme.

"Knowing the handover pack existed made a situation we were anxious about feel much more manageable." — Client, Kuching, August 2025
